Name: Kayla Tran
House: Rogers-Rotary
Hello! My name is Kayla Tran, and I am a resident of the Rogers-Rotary House. I am from the Orlando area, born and raised in Florida all my life. However, my family is from Vietnam. Despite not knowing how to speak the language, I still communicate just as well with my family. I very much consider myself a family-oriented person. On that note, one of my aunts is an SSF alumni. Prior to me attending UF, she talked about how she was living with this great community and met her roommate who is still a good friend she sees often to this day. My aunt encouraged me to apply for this scholarship foundation, and I am so glad that I did. I got to meet and hang out with the amazing girls I currently live with. After only a year of being a resident here, I have made so many memories, had many experiences, and overall grew as a person.
My hobbies include watching YouTube and Netflix, playing tennis, taking naps, and shopping. I am currently in my second year here at UF, majoring in Nutritional Sciences. I plan on going towards the pre-dental track with the classes I will be taking within my major. While I am not completely certain of being in the dentistry field for my future career, it is what I am most interested in now and I have absolute faith that I will gain more passion in my career as time goes. Outside of school, I would love to travel and venture out, preferably somewhere in the United States or in Asia. This past summer was my first time traveling by myself in which I went to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea. I had such a great time there and would definitely go back just for travel purposes. Another major country I would love to visit is Vietnam, as that is the home of my family. I would get the chance to learn more about the culture, meet family members that I have not met or seen before, and hopefully learn how to speak the language by putting it into daily practice. I look forward to what the future holds for me, but in the meantime, I am enjoying life as a student and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the #SSFamily.
