Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jessica Cumbie (née Dueno) joined the Polk Scholarship House in 2012 while attending Florida State University’s College of Nursing. Jessica cherished the sisterhood she gained in Polk and still has relationships with many of her housemates to this day. Her most memorable moment in SSF was, “after a winning football game we all got together in the kitchen, cooked a bunch of food and danced around laughing!”
While at FSU, her greatest accomplishment was winning homecoming princess in 2015 because she was able to inspire women, especially in the Latina community. Jessica’s goal was to show minority women that they could achieve their dreams, and with the help of other organizations and Seminoles, she was able to accomplish that goal. “I’m so blessed to have had that experience and I love that every year I get to help mentor and guide other young minority women to go after the same dream.”
Today, Jessica resides in Kailua, HI and is an active duty U.S. Army nurse where she has traveled the world and provided care to hundreds of active duty soldiers, families and veterans. Currently, she is attending Duquesne University online for her Family Nurse Practitioner degree!
