In rare cases do you hear about a Gator trading in their blue and orange for garnet and gold, but that’s just what William “Bill” Leach did. In fact, he did it so he could join Southern Scholarship Foundation!
Hailing from Leesburg, FL, Bill attended St. Petersburg Junior College before heading to the University of Florida to receive a degree in medicine. He later transferred from UF to Florida State University, where he joined SSF as a resident in the Lions Scholarship House from 1966-67. His most memorable moments in SSF were overseeing the kitchen finances – something that our Treasurer’s and Business Managers are quite familiar with!
Bill received a degree in Biology and Chemistry from FSU; and even studied at Shands Medical and the University of Dundee in Scotland to become an OB-GYN. He succeeded in his career as a physician, and even a citrus farmer! Bill is well traveled, and his career has allowed him to visit places such as Japan, Argentina, Rosebud Indian Reservation and a few additional states. He’s also adopted and raised four children; something he is very proud of.
Bill is sincerely grateful for SSF, “Without SSF I probably could not have completed college.”
