As life constantly advances, we often become consumed by our own personal lives that we sometimes forget the lives of others. Life is all about meeting new people and exploring the endless possibilities that the world has to offer.
Although I am only one person out of seven billion, I still strive to make a difference.
I am currently in my second year of college, and during my time at the Florida State University I have gained so many skills and so much knowledge that will transcend a lifetime. Through organizations like PeaceJam Southeast, I am able to continue on this journey of helping others and understanding this world we live in.
As a PeaceJam mentor and coach, I am able to dedicate my time and efforts to educating youth and empowering their thoughts and ideas. I truly believe that change does not happen at any certain age, whether you are a senior or a young child, you are capable of change.
Change is a process, not a one-time phenomena.
The goal is to inspire someone who will then continue spreading that inspiration onto others. PeaceJam has changed my views on the world drastically and I do not know where I would be had I not joined my sophomore year of high school (this year will be my 5th year with PeaceJam).
I used to believe that my life was unfortunate, that I had nothing to look forward to, but I was wrong. So many different regions in the world suffer from poverty, inflation, drug and human trafficking, abuse, and racism – my issues do not even compare to the issues that people in all parts of the world suffer from daily. I soon found out that my world was so much bigger, that I was not the only one who suffered from hardship; many others do as well. Since then, I have devoted my time to spread awareness throughout my community by donating to orphanages, the Salvation Army and research societies, cleaning litter-filled streets, and helping others. Whether by mouth or by social media, everyone deserves to be aware of the things going on in the world. Be the change. Make a difference.
