House Bio: On land leased from the University of Florida, the L.H. Rogers Rotary House opened in 1988. Funds for the construction included proceeds from the Rotary Club of Gainesville’s first Wild Beast Feast. Originally a house for men, it was converted in the early 2000s as a house for women studying at the nearby UF College of Medicine. It now is home for female undergraduates in all fields of study. Recent investments by House Champion Shirley Thompson have produced a fully renovated facility. When it was still a house for men, one resident created the early prototypes to print photos directly on glass, for a business that eventually became Fracture.
