Hello everyone! My name is Savannah Gardner and I am from Panama City, Florida. I am a first-generation college student attending the University of Florida studying agricultural education and communication. My specialization is in communication and leadership development and I am currently a marketing/social media intern for UF Innovate. I have loved the experience working in media and I want to pursue a career in business marketing and communications. I have an interest in agriculture from the Future Farmers of America organization and I have a profound love for anything outdoors. I found out about SSF from my guidance counselor and a past resident’s SSF testimony. The first-hand testimonial opened my eyes to the amazing opportunity that was available to me through the Southern Scholarship Foundation. I have been so blessed to be a part of this organization and find a community and home that is there for me no matter what.
Some of my favorite hobbies that I have picked up while in college are swimming, biking, and running. I completed my first triathlon in May of 2019 and it was an Ironman 70.3. I swam 1.2 miles, biked 56 miles, and ran 12.1 miles. This was a very challenging yet rewarding experience that I completed during my first year in college. I trained day in and day out while living at SSF and taking a full schedule of courses. This was such a fun experience and I cannot wait to complete my next triathlon. I also have a love for gardening and I started a garden box with the help of my mother at the Hansen Scholarship House. This is a community garden space where residents can compost and groom plants as often as they want. I love sharing what I know about agriculture with those around me and spending time with my housemates outdoors. This is something that I love and hope continues at the Hansen house. Upon graduation from the University of Florida, I plan to pursue my master’s degree at the University of Florida. I cannot wait to be a double Gator and continue to learn and grow at SSF!
