Resident: Katelyn Legaspi
House: ADK
I am Katelyn Legaspi from Sarasota, Florida and I am a first year student at Florida State University. I found out about SSF through a friend of mine who graduated high school a year before me. She is also in SSF and goes to Florida State. I asked her for advice because I knew she went to FSU and since I applied, my first question to myself was “where would I live?” As soon as she told me about SSF I did more research and applied.
I don’t really have many hobbies. In my free time I try to spend as much time with my friends, going wherever we can to make memories. No one from my graduating class in high school came to FSU, so I felt alone for the first couple months. Living in ADK gave me a family. I know I can walk into any space of the house and find someone to talk to. I am glad to be able to say that I can easily talk to any member of the house.
Initially, my major was pre-nursing but I quickly realized that it was not for me; it didn’t suit me. After the summer term of 2019, I thought about changing my major but did not follow through with it until a few weeks after the fall term started. The first couple weeks of that semester, my classes did not engage me. The classes I took were interesting but it just did not feel right to me. I did so much research on the different majors the school offered. I wanted to stay within a career for helping people, specifically children. When I read about the courses for family and child sciences majors, I was instantly engaged. The classes I am in now keep me on my toes and make me want to keep learning. I want to become a certified child life specialist. This job works with children and families in hospitals and other settings to help them cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness, and disability. I love children and I know I want to pursue a career in assisting them!
