Hi, I’m MaKayla! I spent most of my life living in Jackson, MS. When I was 16, I moved to Dallas, TX. There, I began to realize what all opportunities I actually have, and I knew what I wanted to be after college. Some people ask why I didn’t choose a school in MS or TX. Well, I knew that in order for me to be myself, I had to learn by myself. I couldn’t just stick with the same people that I knew from school. Therefore, I chose Florida State University. I am thankful for SSF for providing help for me as I transitioned to college as an out-of-state student. I was not prepared to be accepted as one of their residents, but since then, I have had nothing but acceptance and gratitude from the staff and supporters. So far, it has been a wonderful experience, and I look forward to the rest of my years in this organization.
I grew up in the IB program, but left when I abruptly moved to Texas with my loving mom and sister. Being from Texas, I am known for my very southern accent (which I refuse to believe that I have). I am also a very open-minded person who looks forward to her future success. I love musicals and rom-coms, and my current hobby is watching movies that may inspire me to create my own. I also enjoy drawing and nail tech practices. I am not a political person, and I am more of a listener than a talker. Side note, I hate large bodies of water, piers, and I have never been through an actual hurricane. Currently, I am enrolled in a German and Film Studies class at FSU. These classes have been both challenging and enlightening when it comes to culture and understanding. I didn’t get as many scholarships as other people, especially due to my circumstances before my move to Texas. I never got the chance to participate in many clubs or organizations, and I could no longer play sports. However, I am 100% glad that FSU saw my potential and welcomed me despite my less extensive resume.
After college, I don’t have a particular plan on where I’d want to live or find work, but I plan to work with anybody that will recognize me for my Adobe editing and production skills. I know that this isn’t a certain position, but my goal is always to work my way up to the top, and that doesn’t start with being picky ;). I am so thankful for the opportunities that are given to me, not only from SSF, but from everyone who has helped pave my way to this point. I’m MaKayla, and I am a proud ‘Nole and SSF resident!
