Resident: Marika Vassell
House: Mack Tyner
Hey everyone! My name is Marika Vassell and I am a first year student at the University of Florida. I have lived in South Florida my entire life, growing up in Broward County. Moving to Gainesville was a bit of a transition for me because there isn’t much to do here compared to my hometown. I’m used to having a lot of commotion around me. The only thing that is the same between Broward County and Gainesville is the traffic. I love listening to music, this is something that I do 24/7. Music is one of the tools that I use to keep myself focused or just to help me unwind from a long day. My headphones are with me at all times. I love going out and hanging out with my close friends and family members. I’m the friend who always wants to go out and spend quality time when I have some free time. I like being around people so being apart of SSF was not a problem for me. My house is very friendly and I love that even though we don’t come from the same backgrounds, we can all come together and have a good time. This is definitely an experience that I will never forget.
After graduation, I would like to work in a career that I will decide on later in life. I enjoy working with children so that will definitely be something that I pursue. I worked with children from the end of my sophomore year to senior year in high school. I currently volunteer at Kids Count here in Gainesville and I love it. Seeing all the different personalities that every child has is something that I find amusing.
